TODAY IS TUESDAY

RESUMES AND SOAP!
to be continued...

Jessie and I were supposed to be working on our resumes at Coffee Bean this afternoon. Instead she got sidetracked with complaining about ex-girlfriend's and my mind was preoccupied with the idea of making soap after seeing this tutorial. I had a coupon for Michael's so I went and bought the soap base, but they sure make the whole process look a lot prettier. The tea I steeped didn't give the base much aroma, and I didn't find the nice square molds in tutorial so I made due with dixie cups and tupperware (of the nicer shaped tupperwares). Results were definitely meh. I think I need to invest in some good smelling essential oils and some dried flower petals or something to perk up my soap. Oats and chamomile was my first successful soap. Someone is going to get an oatmeal breakfast surprise in their sink real soon.
The end.

P.S. Kids are so great. Especially when they get mad at you for not playing with them and erase all the pictures in your digital camera. I love kids. LOVE EM! I DO!

hullo hullo

so. i'm officially graduated!
there is no explanation of how happy i felt when i finished my math final (with flying colors, i might add) and was DONE DONE DONE with school. it felt like a huuuuuge weight was lifted off me. no more homework, no more midterms and finals projects, no more studying, no more! i feel good.
the holidays are quickly approaching. most of my time is being spent coordinating schedules for visitors and friends i haven't seen in a while who are home for the winter break. have to make time to see them all before i leave for taiwan on Dec. 25th. yes, christmas night we are flying to taiwan for my cousin's wedding. i'll be gone until jan 11, so don't be surprised if i don't update for a while.
and be surprised if i update from taiwan. international blogger extraordinaire! (not really.)

TURQ!!!

This is an article from WGSN, a "trend forecasting" website.
It costs $40,000 yearly to subscribe, and it's what alll the fashion/makeup/apparel/etc companies use for inspiration.
What, you thought trends were completely arbitrary? (They are.)

Pantone picks turquoise as top shade of 2010
WGSN 08.12.09

Tropical turquoise has been chosen as the colour of 2010 by Pantone.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, told AP there was no runner-up to turquoise in her mind because people crave escapism and freshness after a tough year.
"The shade is on the cusp of blue and green, which makes it both inviting and serene – characteristics associated with blues – and invigorating and luminous, which comes from green," she said.
Pantone's colour for 2009 was mimosa yellow, intended to carry a hopeful, optimistic message.

You heard it here first. Get in line for that new turquoise car, turquoise fridge, turquoise...!!!

TWWWWWWWWWOOOOOO WEEEEEEEEKSSSS

Remember that line from---what's that Arnold movie? With the mars, and the bulging eyeballs, and the Dennis Quaid...........Total Recall? Yea! That. Well it's completely irrelevant to what I'm about to say.
Two more weeks of school left for me. Two weeks! I'm graduating from a college I'm semi-embarassed to have attended, only to find myself feeling even more behind for some reason. I'm about to turn 26, feel unsure about what exactly I want to do with my 'career', am on the verge of losing my mind at home, and yea, the only thing left to do is "figure it out".
Okay, I'm fine. I'm not trying to complain. I'm trying to figure it out. But howwwwwwww??? Does anyone have it figured out? Do the people my age paying their mortgages and getting engaged and advancing in their companies and buying new cars have it figured out? Maybe. But I'm kinda glad I'm not in their boat anyway. On the bright side of things, I have an open road to follow, just not sure where it's leading. Or which road to take for that matter. What? I'm confused.
On the other other bright side of things, hey! I found the "twooooo weeeeks" lady!

P.S. If you're ever feeling down, you should google-image (yea I made that a verb) "total recall".

shooooz

I don't think these are meant to be used as real shoes. At least I hope not. Caesar Pelayo and I had a great debate about the pros and cons of edible shoes, and came to the conclusion that in a third world country where one might or might not be able to afford shoes, edible footwear would be better than none at all. Even if crows attack you on your way home from school. It's not like they'd hurt you; they'd just eat your shoes and fly away.

I especially like the shoebox packaging.
Find them here.

Shannon told me about this new Coen Brothers movie, which I had no idea about. I have a personal affinity toward any and all of their movies, so by default I'm telling myself I'll like this one too. Here's the trailer.

saturday night

update!
a boring night in for me, although i managed to crank out a bit of my paper on dubai, and work a bit on the business plan (sucrose!). with all the demographic and psychographic and market segment research i've been doing for the business i'm beginning to feel like a scheme-y marketing scumbag. but i swear it's all for the good of the company! i swear...you guys shall see soon enough...

the only exciting part of my night:

friday update

nothing spectacularly exciting, but here goes!:
school is, school. 5 more weeks and i'm outta there, and then i'm off to taiwan again for yet another cousin's wedding. we are getting old!
the internship i had didn't work out (aka it was lame and i didn't go back) so i actually had the day off yesterday. most of the day was spent on cute overload and googling "baby elephants" and "lions" because i started working with some dudes on a freelance job designing baby bedding. future babies of america, look out!
also, my mom got me a gym membership so i went and took a step aerobics class, which is just about the funniest and most embarrassing thing you could ever do to yourself. i kept picturing people i knew doing the class with me. step and clap and jump and over and jump and step and!
happy friday people.

back to the sewing room...

this is how we drape a bodice. yeeeep...
i used to really hate sewing and patternmaking, but this class is actually kinda fun. maybe because it signals the imminent approach of GRADUATING. FINALLY. 9 weeks to go...they're going to be the longest 9 weeks of my life.

Monday, October 19, 2009

this weekend

i made a collage this weekend.
also my computer screen is broken again. im in danger of going permanently cross-eyed or seeing permanent horizontal lines from now on, but at the same time i'm hoping it'll fix itself and go back to normal like it did last time.
also my butt really hurts from riding bikes yesterday.

uh huh. thats all.

Friday, October 16, 2009

Finally Friday!

Longest week ever. Rainy days, and now today it's a bright and sunny 90*. Can you believe it? And for a second I thought it might be fall.
At work right now. It's been stressful getting homework squished into the work mix.
I wish I was here:

...wherever it is. Something about living in trees...

hi BLAHg

why do i feel so BLAH today?
list of reasons that could be possibilities:

1. cloudy weather
2. reviewing (through my previous blog entries) how nice this past summer was and missing it
3. missing people i am close to who aren't around
4. first week of school starts tomorrow
5. working on the worst homework assignment ever assigned in mankind
6. i don't know.
7. need to get more sleep
8. itching to leave LA again?

shrug.
i do know i like making lists though.
ok!
bye bye.

a brand new week

sooo...school starts on wednesday. the break went by fast, so did the summer. in fact, now it actually feels like fall outside. it's not too cold yet; late afternoon walks with peanut feel just right.
so, what's new? i got an internship at an apparel manufacturer, so i will have a full week of school+work this quarter. the job seems promising; i'll be designing and doing some graphics for a little girl's clothing line. i hope it's not too overwhelming. at times school and homework are barely managable, but now that i have a job i need to be at whenever i'm not at school i am a bit scared at how hectic things will get during midterms and finals time. it's my LAST quarter! 10 more weeks and a year of fashion school will have gone by. can you believe it? i cant.

i leave you with something cute from fred flare...

easy peasy

orange chicken.
okay. honestly, chinese people do not make orange chicken. wait. well what i mean is my mom has never ever made orange chicken at home, let alone order it in a chinese restaurant. not that there's anything wrong with orange chicken, but my point is that it isn't exactly a real traditional chinese dish, to clear things up for those of you that might think i eat this every week with some kung pao chicken and whats that other thing---oh, chop suey (i don't even know what that is BRIAN BOWEN) and a bowl of rice dredged in soy sauce.
sorry. this quick post on trader joe's frozen orange chicken turned long. anyhow! if you've got the orange chicken craving, grab a bag from tj's. its suuuuuper easy. throw the chicken in the oven (or toaster oven) until crunchy. microwave the sauce and pour it over. i doctored mine with green onions and seasames ( SO ASIAN!) and sriracha if you like spicy things.
THE END.

brian.

today, on your birthday, you helped me bake your own birthday cake.
the story, see, is that i have been looking up recipes for weeks. different frostings, chocolate cakes, yellow cakes, different reviews on different tried and true recipes. and then yesterday i went for it and i baked one (attempted to, at least). but as my mom just pointed out, peanut won't even eat the one i made. it was an ultimate cake fail.
so today, with your help, we made your birthday cake. i couldn't think of a better person to help me with such an important cake.

i try to avoid saying cheesy stuff in my blog (and basically ever) and i feel like this blog post is getting pretty close...so might as well go for it!...
brian, i love you. thank you. thanks for understanding that i'll never call you hubby or bake you anything that's pink with heart shaped sprinkles and glitter and butterflies, or from a recipe by sandra lee. but i'll always be here for you and i hope you know that. may all your birthday wishes come true.
