Foods

I'm listening to Good Food like I do every saturday. Some of this week's program is about how to clean your home without things like Windex:

Cleaning Suggestions:

Vinegar

* All-purpose cleaner: mix a solution of 1 part water to 1 part vinegar (white distilled vinegar is best). Not recommended on marble surfaces.
* As a fabric softener or disinfectant: breaks down soap scum; use 1/3 cup lemon juice, 2/3 cup vinegar and 1 cup water. You can add 5 - 6 drops of lavender oil or grapefruit seed extract to disinfect. Lavender is a natural disinfectant.

Baking Soda

* Slow or clogged drain: pour 1 cup baking soda into the drain, add 1 cup of vinegar, then follow this with 1 kettle full of boiling water.
* Copper or brass polisher: Cut lemon in half, sprinkle with baking soda or salt and rub it all over.
* Stain remover: use baking soda and water to create a paste and rub on stains on sink

Lemon

* To clean silver: use salt and lemon, rub silver item, then rinse with hot soapy water and
* To clean stainless steel or oven - use lemon or vinegar and baking soda, spray water and scrape.

AND
for those that can't afford to buy 200% organic because as we all know, it is quite pricey, 12 foods that are safe to buy non-organic because of minimal pesticide use on the conventional way they are grown:

* Broccoli
* Eggplant
* Cabbage
* Banana
* Kiwi
* Asparagus
* Sweet peas (frozen)
* Mango
* Pineapple
* Sweet corn (frozen)
* Avocado
* Onion

The end!

Radiohead

Radiohead in the park a few weeks ago was amazing.
If you didn't get a chance to see them here or in SoCal or wherever, you can listen to their Santa Barbara Bowl concert on NPR. That's what I'm doing now. It's gloomy again but this is a nice soundtrack for today.

Funny I guess.

Tonight is pizza night! Last time's was a great success.
Also, reading food blog comments is funny:

Any ideas for gluten-free, egg-free, milk and soy free pizza crusts?

How about whole wheat? Have you tried substituting whole wheat flour for some of the flour? I guess you couldn't get it quite as light and crispy that way, which is a shame.

Saturday

The Indian summer month is well under way. For once I'm appreciating how nice it is that the beach is only a mile way, even though for the rest of the months of the year it makes the Sunset District a giant blob of fog.

Painting some more today. And we got a new book.:

This week

Has been quite eventful.
We had our little opening party/gallery show with artist Amy Earles. She is the first person to use our new gallery space at Rare Device.
Amy makes incredibly delicate and detailed paintings, drawings, and paper dolls. You must see them in person to truly appreciate how refined and beautiful they are. Show's up until Sept. 30th if you're around!

One of my favorite pieces from the show. I don't know why but these little conehead creatures are so cute, especially on the wood. See/purchase more of the pieces from the show here.

It's really awesome and inspiring talking to the artists and learning about how they got started. The internet is a big part of it (flickr, blogging, etc.); it makes the art world seem like a smaller place.

Yesterday

Yesterday was hot enough for the beach! And Jamba Juice! YES this is blog-worthy news! Today is even hot enough for beach again. And I'm making blueberry cake. And the US Open is on tv. And I'm adding the second mouse to my watercolor painting. And I guess that's all.
Here's his buddy, slowly coming into view...

And another buddy...

Finally

...began painting again. "Splurged" on some watercolors and brushes, trying to stay within my lack of a budget as best as possible. I haven't wanted to buy new art supplies because I have them already, they're just at home in LA.
Anyhow, this guy:
