Update

I can't believe it's Dec. 21st already. I didn't think I'd survive the winter here in SF, but here I am freezing my socks off. I don't feel like going out or doing anything; it's rainy and cold.
I start school here January 6th. Crazy.
It's nice to be in a city during the holidays though. It actually feels festive. Although it can be overwhelming it's nice to see the tree up in Union Square, ice skaters, the Macy's holiday window displays.
I'll be home this week. I'm excited. Lots of catching up to do, friends and family alike.

Yesterday

while shopping around the Fillmore I met Joanna Mendicino . You might've seen here ridiculously cute bird vases and such around town or on etsy. Joanna grew up here in Northern California, studied at Berkeley, and went on to pursue her interests in ceramics full time.
Joanna was super sweet, and if I had more of a holiday budget this year I would've gotten a vase for myself or someone I love. Anyhow, if you're thinking of gift ideas, her stuff is beautiful and sweet, and it's always great to support local independent artists.

Art

New show up at Rare Device.
Trish Grantham! Trish is an artist from Oregon. She collects vintage Japanese paper (Reader's Digest, etc.) and paints over it with acrylics. The gloss comes from covering her paintings with resin. Really cute stuff. Buy it online at Rare Device or come take a look at the show; it'll be up until Jan. 27!

Gotta get my act together! Transcript requests. Recommendations. Christmas and New Year's. I'm feeling the rush.

I got one of these woodburning kits yesterday at the art store.

Um. So now I can, draw on wood I guess. And solder. But wait, there's more!: Woodburning, Leather Crafting, Soldering, Stamping, Paper Crafting, Hot Knife Cutting, Pattern Transferring, Embossing, Stencil Cutting, Personalizing and so much more.

Black Friday

I don't think I've ever worked on a black Friday. It'll probably be slow today, but NPR is keeping me company and I guess we're going to serve hot cider. Ummm...cute things we have in the store:

I

Might start school in January. Well, not might, but most likely will.

Getting cold

(gloves from Kate Spade)
It's funny because people keep telling me the winter in SF isn't that cold. I mean, it's colder in comparison to Southern California, but for some reason it doesn't feel as cold as it was in the summer. It's supposed to rain today. We'll see. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving--time flies!

Lazy. Me and Hanami feel like sloths.

NPR.com

I set my homepage to NPR, thinking it would help me read about any important issues or current events BEFORE I begin wasting my time and brain space on other websites. Nevertheless I always end up reading the fun stuff anyway. Here are some cool articles I read today and wanted to share:

CSA Time again

I joined a CSA up here! If you're in the Bay Area, this is the one I joined. They have a stand in the Ferry Building for more info if you're interested. It's nice because they deliver right to your door too.
This was my first week of receiving produce. Yams, fennel, leeks, chard, broccoli, apples, satsumas, and fresh cranberries. Looking up recipe ideas right now. I tried making braised kale, but it ended up being kind of a bust. Oh well!
Today I tried using the fresh cranberries to make this recipe from Lottie+Doof. Except I'm not the best at following directions or using the right size pans and this and that. So it wasn't really an upside-down cake, but it's a cake nonetheless.
I'm also roasting some cut up yams, butternut squash, and sunchokes, just to take full advantage of the oven. It's been cold lately, so it feels good to have the oven on and the smell of caramelized vegetables is nice too.

AGHH

It's almost Thanksgiving and I haven't updated at all. Isn't this what happens to a lot of blogs? I just don't have the dedication to update daily; or maybe my life is just uneventful as of lately. Actually, I take that back. I was out of the country for a few weeks for my cousin's wedding in Taiwan. It was a nice vacation; I've had a lot of nice vacations lately. Time to get serious. :/
